Let's call this Stupid News of the Day. At a PUBLIC school in Chicago, the children are NOT allowed to bring lunches from home. According to the article found HERE, at "Little Village Academy on Chicago's West Side, students are not allowed to pack lunches from home...". And I thought Michelle Obama's food fight was her own invention.(rolls eyes) Seems like the arrogance of the White House is actually rooted in Chicago. It is one thing to recommend that students eat healthy and to actually offer a healthy alternative. It is another thing altogether to mandate that the public MUST eat according to that plan. After seeing the food on the plate in the file picture accompanying the article, I too would be hiding my face if not running to the trash can to throw up. What is it with America that THE GOVERNMENT from the White House to the local school principal think that they know better than parents how to raise children? Our Government does not even understand the concept of spending less than you bring in! On top of this all, the school lunches cost $2.25. I, an adult, can eat on less than that for lunch but even THAT is not the issue.
Is it any wonder that BIG government is being touted from the White House? No it is not when you understand that it is simply a continuation of what was learned in Chicago. Wake up America! A vote for Obama means you do not get to choose what you eat for lunch!(Wink!)

This might be more good than bad. I know a friend who growing up was deliberately malnourished by his mom and stepdad. That would prevent things like this from happening, as well as having lunches stolen and the like. Unfortunately, I agree that is not a good solution. I think that school administration should have policies set up to make sure that lunches brought from home meet minimum nutritional standards (and maybe just occasional spot-checking would be enough to enforce this) instead of mandating school-based lunches only. Adding more government to a problem gives at best diminishing returns on getting solutions to those problems, because usually the best solutions that I know of come from the private and other non-government sectors.
Spot on, Luke. This is socialism 101. More and more the government is interfering with the parents' right to decide how to raise their children. If they want to control what they eat, the next thing they'll be controlling is what they think. Oh...never mind, they are already doing that with their indoctrinational classes that prohibit all things Christian and then teach our children all other religions as sacred and holy.
There is no coincidence that this is happening in Illinois, either.
Personally, I am grateful I am getting old and the government is going to ensure I die as quickly as possible. I don't want to be around to watch what this world is coming to and what my grandchildren will have to endure.
Byron,
Your last sentence actually makes more sense, ESPECIALLY if we understand the private sector to mean the actual Dads and Moms. The government can regulate what they sell, but they should not be able to force all to buy from them.
Mrs. V,
Cookie cutter comes to my mind as well. It is a wonder that anyone was able to survive before these modern know-it-alls came along./sarcasm alert
I'm quite excited to see how all of this ends. I believe that just as God raised up "heroes" in the Bible, He is prepared to do the same today. It's a great time to be alive. Just a pity that we are surrounded by such stupidity and arrogance.
Ironic that you'd say that about God raising up heroes. I was thinking about that just the other day about another situation. I do believe God is doing that. And you're right...I should be watching for the sea to part instead of looking at the Egyptian dustclouds. hmmmn...nice thinking. selahV
